Encoders are the equipments which transform angle displacements and linear displacements into electric signals,  and are widely applied to detecting elements in the systems of speed control and position control.

 

Absolute Encoder (Consists of Single- turn and Multi-turn)

Each Code which Absolute Encoder outputs is unique, thus the position, angle and the number of loops get form the codes are also absolute and unique. No need to reset the Zero Mark when power off.

Bus-based Encoder contains several encoders, each encoder has its own cable to output data, the datas will be disposed and transferred by Communication Methods. All the signals from the encoders will be received and read by only on port. Bus-based encoder can save cables, ports and transfer equipment. Support CANopen, MODBUS, PROFIBUS etc.

The Principle of Optical Rotary Encoder:

The Optical Rotary Encoder includes a Tube for giving out light, a Shaft Code Disc with clear and dark two kind of annular reticles, and receiving elements. When the Tube  gives out a specific light to the Code Disc, at the same time the Code Disc keeps rotating, the lights will only pass through the clear reticles with a regular frequency,  then four groups of sinusoidal waves A, B, C, D will be received and recorded by the receiving elements. Each group of interfacing sinusoidal waves has a phase difference of 90°. And  inverse wave C and D and add to Wave A and B, so that the signal outputted will be much more stable. There is a pulse of phase Z occurs in every turn which will works a s reference “0” Mark. The rotating direction can be judged from the appearing order of A and B.     

The materials of Code Disc can be glass, metal and plastic, of which Glass Disc can provide high thermo stability and accuracy, but easily broken; Metal Disc is hard, but the accuracy and thermo stability are low; Plastic Disc is cheap, but the accuracy and thermo stability are also low.

The resolution demands of the encoder  requires the disc shall not be small so that the reticles can be drawn on clearly on the disc.
